Happy new year, fam! Excited to be popping up in your feeds in 2020 and (hopefully) beyond. Ive said it a hundred times already, but this year has been a whirlwind. Recently a friend told me, “Girl, I can hardly keep up with you.” And I said, “You? I can hardly can keep up with myself.” And that’s the truth. Admittedly, this blog has been one of the few constants I’ve had throughout this journey. You’ve all heard stories that some of the people closest to me have yet to hear. This blog/instagram has been my passion project, a diary…the one thing I’ve come back to over and over again. This past year, it took me on adventures that I never could have imagined and I can only thank you all for that. Right now, I’m in a period of stillness or indecision…whichever you prefer to call it. I’ll be straight up and say that I haven’t chosen resolutions, goals, or destinations yet. And I’m sure that if i did, they would change anyway. I’m learning to be okay with that. Regardless of what happens or where I go next, just know that you’re stuck with me! 😜⁣ ⁣ Tell me what you want! What type of content would you like to see more of? What do you want to see from me? Specific destinations, guides, photos, videos, meetups? Help me help you! Would you like to see a 2020 recap in stories with experiences and lessons learned in travel, business, relationships, etc.?

*Is It Me or Is It Them?* ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ Imagine being denied an opportunity not for the colour of your skin but for the average colour of your AUDIENCE'S skin? These stories that I tell you aren't hearsay. These are first-person, lived experiences. A couple of years ago, I pitched @buergenstockresort. And well…just swipe to see the synopsis of our email conversation. My content, engagement and YOUR eagerness to spend Black dollars was completely overlooked. "After careful consideration, we decided not to f*** with your Black asses BUT when we do, we will be sure to contact you 🙂" was how it read to me. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ I also share this to show some of my new White supporters that when Black people complain about discrimination, we aren't pulling it out of our asses. I struggled for a long time dealing with a lack of opportunity for a gift of photography that I thought I possessed. I wrestled with the concepts of not being good enough and not being able to compete with anyone White (ESPECIALLY as one of the RARE Black male travel influencers). Every time that I post, the goal is to show MY perspective of the travel world to THE WORLD through beautiful pictures. But for the longest time, I could ONLY tap into the Black social pages no matter what I did. But these pages supported me and my following grew to be predominately Black people. Over the last few days, the shares, follows and engagement of my account from White people and other races has been amazing to see though.  So, thank you and let's keep this momentum going! ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ By the way, I never did get a response from @buergenstockresort so that they could clarify what their discriminatory and racist reasoning meant. They left me on "read". But, if @buergenstockresorts reading this, then the reason why my target demographics never matched yours is…well…because you see, the way racism in social media is set up, it's the so-called algorithm that's preventing me from being seen by the very White people that you wish made up most of my 56K+ follower count. But since @buergenstockresort wouldn't get back to me, maybe you'll have a better chance at getting a response if you ask them what they meant. 🙃 ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ Happy Sunday
